30 Weeks, Turkey Day and a Baby!

I realized it has been a while since I last posted and I am blaming it on the fact that Thanksgiving week was pretty crazy and in all the festivities my pregnancy brain let me down. But I'll do my best to recap here.

Last Tuesday, we hit the 30 week mark! I am grateful to still be feeling pretty good physically and, despite the return of the fatigue, I'm continuing to enjoy all the quality time with my little lady. Baby is now about 3 lbs and the size of a cantaloupe. She moves around throughout the day now and I'm hoping that means she is on the same day/night schedule as her parents...we will see come February!

My parents came into town last Sunday to spend the week with us and we were all anxiously awaiting the arrival of my newest niece. Tina went into the hospital on Wednesday, but was eventually discharged when her contractions stopped. Jason stepped up to host Thanksgiving and he, with some help from Justin, made a delicious dinner that we all enjoyed.

Early Friday morning, Tina's water broke and we rushed to the hospital while Jason took Mickie for the day. For all her stubbornness leading up to making her appearance, when she decided she was ready that baby wasn't waiting for anyone. In just over 3 hours, Tina gave birth to a perfect little 7 lb 14 oz daughter - Sadie Kay Myers. She is so precious and looks just like Makenzie did when she was born. As with Mickie, Tina was a rock star, though watching her give birth while I am pregnant has made me want to keep cooking Hadley for the next several months instead of weeks!

My parents left to drive home to Atlanta on Saturday morning so Jas and I took over Mickie duty for the weekend and got in some parenting practice. We had a really good time, and despite being a little overly emotional, Mickie is handling all of the changes in her life really well. She calls Sadie Kay "my baby" and loves being Mommy's Little Helper....for at least a few minutes at a time.

As with every year, I am so thankful for my amazing and supportive family and group of friends, but this year I am particularly grateful for my newest niece, and the little turkey I am still cooking. It has been a whirlwind the past few weeks and I know the time will continue to speed up as we near the holidays so I am trying to enjoy the time I have with Jason before we become a family of 3!

Baby Shower Part 2

Over the weekend, my friends Shannon and Mandi threw a baby shower for all of our friends in Kansas City. It was such a great time! Shannon was sweet to open her home for the shower and Mandi did a great job with the food and decorations. It was so nice to spend time with everyone and we got so many great gifts that will be put to good use!

Me and Shannon who graciously offered to host!
Mandi who planned the perfect shower!

Tina and Mickie joined us for the shower as well and it was nice to have some family in attendance. I know Tina is very tired and uncomfortable these days so I appreciated her effort. Mickie was the hit of the shower and was a big help to me while opening my gifts. Each gift she would open she would hold up and say "surprise!" It was so cute!
Future cousins and (hopefully) Best Friends
My Mini BFF!
When we found out we were having a girl, we asked Mandi's boyfriend, Steve, to help us with artwork for the nursery. Steve is an incredibly talented artist and he so kindly agreed to help us. We don't have a theme for our nursery, and for a long time all we had in our minds was the color scheme (grey and yellow). I found a couple of pictures of Tinkerbell that I thought were cute and asked Steve if he would be able to recreate them. He did such a great job and we can't thank him enough. I am so excited to get them framed and see them in the nursery!

It was such a great day with sweet friends and reminded me yet again how lucky Hadley is to be joining such an amazing group of women. We both felt so loved and I know she is excited to meet everyone soon!

Third Trimester!

We are 28 weeks today and officially in the third trimester! Equal parts exciting and terrifying! It’s hard to believe we are nearing the home stretch, and I think time is starting to speed up. Luckily, depending on the patience of our little lady, we have another 3ish months to finish our preparation and enjoy some quality alone time before our lives change completely.

At 28 Weeks, Peanut:
  •          Is almost 16 inches long and weighs two a half pounds
  •           Is the size of a tropical coconut
  •          Has almost packed on enough fat to regulate her own body temperature
  •           Is practicing new skills like coughing and dreaming
  •          Moves around a lot throughout the day – she is most calm when I am walking or working out. Otherwise, she’s rockin to her own beat in there!

 At 28 weeks, Mama:
  •          Is feeling good – fat and happy most days
  •          Passed her Glucose Tolerance Test – woo hoo!
  •          Has gained about 11 lbs, though it looks and feels like a bit more
  •          Is still eating relatively well (except when Daddy is out of town!)
  •         Is maintaining the same exercise routine, though it’s now a comical sight and downright painful to try and recover afterwards!
Jason’s travel schedule has been a little crazy, but we are excited to have him home for a few days starting tomorrow. We are continuing to make slow and steady progress on our to do list and hope to get started on the nursery this weekend. I also have my KC baby shower on Sunday and I am so excited! Tina is less than a month from her due date and I think Sadie Kay is anxious to make an early arrival so we are looking forward to loving on our newest niece while still enjoying uninterrupted sleep for a few more months. So many fun and exciting things happening in our family and I couldn't feel more blessed.

It's the Freaking Weekend...

Thank goodness it's Friday! This week has been a long one and I am happy it's nearing an end. I'm even happier that Jason is home tonight and tomorrow, though he unfortunately has to leave again for work on Sunday. We have missed him this week but he has a few more weeks of back to back travel before he gets a bit of a break.

On Tuesday, we hit the 27th week mark. Our last official week in the second trimester! On Thursday, I had an appointment with my OB. I took my glucose tolerance test and, fingers crossed, I think things went well. The sugary substance was as bad as Tina warned me it would be, but I was able to choke it down and I think Hadley liked the sugar because she’s still turning somersaults! There was no sugar in my urine so the doctor is confident that my blood work will come back clean. No news is good news in this situation so let’s hope I don’t hear from the doctor anytime soon!

Thankfully, things still look good for Mama and baby. I have gained almost 11 lbs. and my BP remains low (112/60). We are still measuring a few weeks behind, but that could be because she's tiny or because she plans to make her appearance a little later in February (I'm hoping for the former!) Baby’s heart rate was strong at 140 – crazy how much louder it is now that she’s getting bigger! Now that we are almost into our third trimester (AAAH!) I am to the point where we start seeing the doctor every two weeks so our next appointment will be November 19th.

In other news, my older sister Tina is due to have her second baby any day now. Well, technically her due date isn't until December 4th, but she has been having regular contractions and it seems as if Sadie Kay is anxious to be here in time for turkey and dressing (with a father who's a chef and an uncle who pretends he's one, I can't blame her!) We are so excited to be here for this special time and live vicariously through them for a few months while enjoying a little more uninterrupted sleep.

One of the coolest things to happen this week was that my little sister Celeste sent us a video montage she had made for Hadley at our shower in Atlanta. We were lucky to have a good number of our friends and family in attendance and the video is so sweet. I cry every time I watch it and I even let Hadley listen to it! It is such a sweet memento and will be a great keepsake for her to have in the future.
